Calico is a simple woven cotton fabric that originated as a printed fabric from Calicut, India. Calico is usually made from pure cotton, but, on occasions, can be mixed with synthetic material. It is uncoloured and has a slightly rough texture to it.

Calico is mentioned by historians before the Christian era, and praised by early travelers for its fine texture and beautiful colors.
